Dive Locations
Shore Dives
Thevenard Island is the base
for all shore dives. You will meet up with the dive crew at the
dive centre where we will set up our kit. The day's dive site
will be selected according to the weather and the sea conditions
and then, we set off.
The shore dives boast colourful coral reefs where you can expect to see Painted Rock Lobsters hiding under their coral hangouts, also look out for the Queenies and Trevally cruising around the baitfish.
For those who love underwater photography, you will really enjoy searching out the smaller critters and to extend your bottom time on these shallower dives.
Boat Dives
The Mackerel Islands area
extends for kilometres and the depth of its waters vary greatly.
King Diver can take you out to those untouched areas to explore
what is on offer:
- Spectacular coral atolls.
- Local tropical fish such as Coral Trout, Reef Banner Fish, Black-tipped Rock Cod, Yellow Boxfish, Round Faced Batfish, Blue-spotted Fantail Ray, Painted Rock Lobster and Grey Nurse Shark.
For those looking for some big pelagic action we can cruise out to Rosily Cays to check out:
- Big fish action such as Spanish Mackerel, Potato Cod up to 2 metres, Black Tip and White Tip Reef Shark, Yellow Bellied Sea Snake, White-spotted Eagle Ray and Turtles.
- During whale season, it's not unusual to hear them singing during dives.
- Swim alongside the whale sharks when the season arrives.
We can also easily reach the
other islands that form the Mackerels, investigate their unique
coral gardens and look for the Blue Spotted Rays and Octopus hiding
in their hollows.
The sailing time on King Diver doesn't usually exceed an hour before arriving at one of our dive sites. We then have a full dive briefing before entering the water. After the dive, there is a minimum of one-and-a-half-hour surface interval, before our second dive. Good time to chill out. For those who are interested, we also offer a third dive for the day on the way back home.
Night Dives
An unforgettable experience! Scubaroo's crew will brief you on the safety issues and night dive procedures. This is a great opportunity to slow down, unwind and discover the tiny creatures of the reef. Expect to see:
- The Peppered Moray night hunting out of its hole, or the Lionfish feeding on the ocean floor.
- Nudibranch, Sea Star, Sea Apple.
For those who have never experienced night diving, you should really have a go; the colours are unbelievable and the creatures that call the night their home are mind-boggling.
Geoff runs these from the beach, giving you his guided tour and
pointing out all the things you might miss, so make sure you sign
up for a night dive while you're here.
