How you want to spend your time while you're in the area will largely determine the accommodation option you choose. If diving is at the top of your agenda, we recommend basing yourself on Thevenard Island where Scubaroo Dive tours and PADI courses take place.

If you're planning on doing an introductory dive or a dive tour and then heading off by car to discover the Onslow surrounds, perhaps a base in Onslow town might suit you better. In all cases, we can help you choose an option to suit you, so just ask us.

Mackerel Islands Accommodation

Thevenard Island

Thevenard Island is a C Class Nature reserve which offers two types of accommodation. The island has its own general store where food supplies, alcohol and general supplies can be purchased.

Club Thevenard

Popular with diving groups, backpackers, singles and families, Club Thevenard offers:

• 30 room accommodation village.
• Spacious restaurant and bar.
• Pool and outdoor relaxation area.

Beach-front Cabins

The beach-front cabins are a great alternative for those who prefer more privacy and want to get closer to nature. Choose from 11 cabins, which vary from two to five bedrooms and are fully self-contained.

• 11 beach-front cabins.
• Can accommodate up to 10 persons each.
• Fully self-contained.
• You only need to bring your linen and towels.

Direction Island

Perfect for those looking for the ultimate island getaway, Direction Island is a small island with its own reef and just one cabin, so you and your guests can kick back and relax knowing that you're the only people on the island. The cabin is fully self-contained and can accommodate up to 8 people. Just bring enough food for your stay, your own linen (sheets and pillowslips, towels, tea towels), and fishing tackle. The only other items you might want to pack are your appetite for relaxation, enjoyment and fresh seafood.
